New Books, Staff, Reading, and a Plug!
Books: This has turned out to be a very productive and busy couple of months for PLSF. First, the books are streaming in—thank you. While we continue to have many friends send packages of books, we received a very generous book donation this month—approximately 1,000 volumes from the estate of Terrence Des Pres, former scholar at Colgate University. Thanks to poets Jules Gibbs, Bruce Smith, and Peter Balakian for organizing, packaging and sending these volumes (28 boxes), as well as sending one hundred volumes from their own library. We also were excited to receive nine-years worth (2000-2009) of Poets and Writers magazine from poet Mari L’ Esperance. Scroll down for a complete list of book and financial donors.
Staff: Poet Karen Carissimo has joined our forces as our Director of Development. Karen will be working on fundraising, developing an advisory board, as well as reading her own work at our first literary event. karen.carissimo@iplsf.org
Reading: That’s right. The International Poetry Library of San Francisco will participate in Litquake’s 10th anniversary with a reading during the famed Litcrawl on October 17, 2009 at Café Que Tal from 8:30pm-9:30pm. http://www.litquake.org/
More details will follow in September’s update, but we’ve lined up a fabulous group of poets for your pleasure:
Plug: A new international literary magazine based in Paris/US that we think deserves a look. http://www.cerisepress.com
Thanks again for your support. If you have any books, funds, or time that you’d love to share, please contact us.
